The story behind the Tulle Dress

I designed the Tulle dress and its signature textile print in the early 2010s, around 2011. This easy, summery dress was first sold as a finished garment and quickly became a successful design. Later, I gave it a second life as a sewing pattern, allowing sewists to create their own versions and enjoy its relaxed, warm-weather style.

Top tips for sewing your Tulle Dress

  • Cutting the tulle: Use sharp scissors. Weigh the fabric down with pattern weights rather than pins. Use tissue paper when cutting delicate fabrics to keep them from slipping and to ensure more accurate cuts.
  • Handling the longline neckline: a seam tape will prevent the neckline from stretching and loosing its shape. Please refer to the instruction steps.
  • Seam finishing: the dress facings are finished with a bias for a cleaner finish.
  • Pressing: Use a low heat setting and a pressing cloth.
  • Fitting: We recommend making a toile (muslin, calico depending on the final fabric) of the bodice first, as the longline neckline is a key fit point.
